Inauguration of the solar roof in Windhoek
On November 10th 2005, the photovoltaic system on the roof of the German School in Windhoek had it´s grand opening. Following an invitation of the german ambassador, Dr. Massing, a whole host of representatives of the Namibian government, the media and the academic sector took part in the ceremony. As our special guest and main speaker, we were proud to welcome the deputy prime minister Libertina Amathila who was accompanied by the secretary of state for energy as well as the president of the national planning commission.

“The solar power system on the roof of the Steiner School is a great example for the Vision 2030 and exemplary in showing how closely the various governmental bodies can work with each other and with the private sector in order to become self-sustaining through the latest technology”, said the deputy prime minister Libertina Amathila.

With this system up to 25,000 kWh of environmentally sound electricity can be produced per year. “You are now self-sustaining and no longer dependent on the fluctuation of energy prices”, emphasised the german ambassador Dr. Massing. All guests agreed that Namibia would bean ideal location to make use of solar power. This means that the little, clay-built training centre, SUNSET Cafè, is going to enjoy growing popularity and become a place for numerous talks and discussions. Here all students and interested parties of the public and private sector can find information regarding the adventages of solar power in Namibia.

At the end of the day everyone agreed: The solar power system on the roof of the school is not going to stay the only one in Namibia.
