Welcome to SUNSET dena-RES-Projekt Kenia
in the Ol Pejeta Bush Camp in Ol Pejeta Conservany, Laikipia District
On April 2016, SUNSET completed the installation of its latest dena-RES-Project in the Bush Camp in the well known Ol Pejeta conservancy in the Laikipia district. In order to demonstrate the advantages of renewable energy technologies, SUNSET designed and set up a wide variety of products manufactured in Germany in the bush camp. To ensure a well-functioning and reliable water supply, a pressurised water system was installed. Solar well pumps and solar-driven pressure pumps now guarantee a steady pressure and reliable water supply all over the camp. The pumping system is designed with a capacity of 40m³/ day and supplies several “SUNhot® units” hot water systems each with a capacity of 300 litres, as well as fresh water for the tents, kitchen and staff quarters. No costs were spared to ensure that the lodge also enjoys a steady and efficient electricity supply all over the premises. A 16.12 kW solar system supplies AC power in the bush camp. The SUNisland® system has a state-of-the-art design, covers peak loads of 19 kW in the daytime, and supplies 24/7 a constant power output of 8 kW. On top of this, a second battery/wind/solar hybrid 10 kW system was installed in the kitchen area in order to connect the camp’s existing infrastructure (12V fridges and deep-freezers) to an independent reliable solar system. This will spare costly procedures. Additionally the full existing 12 V wiring and illumination were brought to the latest LED standards and are now powered by an 1800 Ah/12 V battery bank.
The bush camp has thus taken steps to base its power supply completely on renewable energy. With this, the owners fulfil their guests’ high requirements and optimise the lodge’s efficiency. Furthermore, the lodge has now become the first environmentally friendly, fully green-energy-powered lodge in Kenya. The bush camp has now upgraded accommodation and provides a relaxing and carefree environment to its customers.
To provide detailed information about renewable energy technology, a permanent exhibition with several show boards was installed in the Ol Pejeta Bush Camp. This shall be used for training and information purposes as part of an educational programme on the one hand and on the other hand to show all interested visitors of the Bush Camp the advantages and benefits of renewable energy technologies in contrary to conventional energy sources. In addition, SUNSET offers a practical training workshop in the scope of this project.
The PV-plant will be inaugurated with an official ceremony with high-ranking guests from politics and business. The event will take place in October 2016 at the Ol Pejeta Bush Camp in the well-known Ol Pejeta Conservancy. After Costa Rica, Ecuador, Indonesia, Egypt, Namibia, Shanghai and Singapore as part of the dena-Solar Roof Programme and Angola and Uruguay as part of the dena-RES Programme, Kenya is the next project which SUNSET Energietechnik GmbH will successfully implement under the dena-RES Programme of the German Energy Agency (dena).
SUNSET Energietechnik GmbH is one of the oldest German provider and manufacturer for renewable energy technology and is making pioneer work for the appreciation of solar energy as real alternative to conventional energies.
